Established: October 1995 Core Business:General Trade & Retail
DaCosta Mannings Inc. (DMI) was formed in 1995 as a result of a merger between DaCostas Limited and Manning Wilkinson & Challenor Limited; the history of these two entities established DMI as one of the oldest trading companies in Barbados. Today, as a leading local retailer, the company is structured across two divisions - Retail, and Shipping & Commercial - which in turn represent different profit centres, to adequately focus on the various niche segments in the market.

Retail Division
This division enjoys a major market share in the large household appliances market and has six retail stores in Barbados (including the recent flagship branch at Warrens). Its associated brands are Kelvinator, Whirlpool, Yamaha, Dell, Singer, Elna, IBM and Epson. It also retails locally manufactured furniture.

DMI also carries a wide range of kitchen and small appliances, and some of the finest names in home video and audio equipment. These are offered on competitive hire purchase and credit terms. DMI's retail range also includes office equipment, music equipment and personal computers from major brand name suppliers.

Today, the Knights Extra convenience stores, formerly a Super Centre Limited operation, have been subsumed under the DMI portfolio transforming the general trading and retailing business into a one-stop shopping facility for customers.

Shipping and Commercial Division
This Division is made up of four strategic business units:
  • Commercial
  • Shipping
  • TexGas
  • Dacosta Mannings Auto Centre

Commercial Department
This department is a leading wholesaler of lumber and building supplies, automotive products and packaging products to the cottage and manufacturing industries. Customers include contractors, construction companies, homebuilders, company fleets, petrol stations, retailers, the sugar industry, and the individual consumer.

Dacosta Mannings Auto Centre / Napa Auto Parts Department
This section imports famous brands such as Texaco lubricants, Michelin and Pirelli tyres, whilst selling quality automotive accessories and parts at Napa Auto Parts. Tyre and vehicle service can be carried out at the two Napa Auto Centre locations (Brandons and Green Hill); accessories can be purchased at Napa Express outlets within the retail stores.

Texgas
This business unit is a major player in the distribution of domestic gas through the supply of Texgas bottled liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). This is available through service stations and a direct distribution network.

Shipping Department
The division has over 100 years experience in shipping and acts as agent for several international shipping and cruise lines. It is responsible for the local marketing of associated lines and handles all other ancillary services including customs clearances of cargo and booking of space on incoming and outgoing vessels. With the acquisition of T.Geddes Grant & Company's shipping lines in October 2002, the DMI Shipping department now represents a wide range of vessels.
